青年奥运会是一项国际体育赛事。每四年举行一次，给年龄介于14和18之间的运动员参加。2007年7月6日，国际奥委会委员在第119届国际奥委会在危地马拉城核准设立一个青年版本的奥运会。

夏季版本将持续最多12天，与第一期发生在夏季中期的2010年冬季版将持续最多9天，与第一期发生在早2012年。 国际奥委会将允许最多3500运动员和875名官员参加的夏季奥运会，而970运动员和580名官员预计在冬季奥运会。

欧洲青年奥林匹克节每两年举行一次夏季和冬季的版本，和澳大利亚青年奥林匹克节，已证明是成功的。x青年奥运是继承停止世界青年运动会。
